original Chateau Bournand was destroyed by Cardinal Richeleu for the
construction of his fortified town in the 1600's. It was re-built later
in that century using tuffeau limestone from the neighboring caves (the
same that was used to build the White House). The chateau has been recently
redecorated with an atmosphere that is warm, relaxing and tastefully
appointed.
We have seven bedrooms–three are in the chateau
and chateau courtyard; two are in the Manor House; and two ar in the
separate, fully-equipped Carriage House. Our rooms all have large, modern
ensuite bathrooms and are beautifully decorated with antiques, original
stone or hardwood floors, oriental and wooden beams. We have extra single
beds available that we can add for special needs.
There is a guest refrigerator available,
a gas grill for barbeques, lovely picnic areas with tables with umbrellas
and benches throughout the tree parc for reading in the gardens. We
have added a new regulation – sized pitanque (boules) court near
our pool and pool house.
Chateau and Courtyard:
- The Coach Suite is a ground-level suite decorated
with sunflower yellow, muted greens and rust. It has a chaise, club
chair, a desk and beautiful fireplace. The private WC room is separated
from the room with the tub, shower and sink. The view from this room
is into the magnificent tree parc and down the lane of lime trees
to the beautiful garden statue.
- The Forge Suite is also on the ground level,
with a charming sitting room with a fireplace, sofa and chairs. It
also has a private WC room separated from the room with the tub, shower
and sink. It has been done in blues and burgundy.
- The Gothic Suite, with its grand stone fireplace,
medieval art work, original beams and iron poster bed, is a warm
and romantic room. A wing chair, table and chairs will
accommodate many needs, and you can use Gothic's French door
to enjoy the back gardens.
Manor House:
Our newly remodeled stone Manor Houe is a wonderful
addition and is one of the oldest houses on the property and has the
original bread oven.
- The Manor House Master Suite
is ground-level suite with antiques, fabrics in burgundy and creams
and oriental carpets. There is a French door from the master bedroom
to the beautiful tree parc and a separate bathroom. The large salon
has the original wooden beams and views of the courtyard.
- The Manor House Basil Bedroom with a separate bathroom,
was added in 2005 and is accessed from and outside staircase. It has
views of trees from all vistas-- you will feel you are sleeping in
a wonderful tree house.
Carriage House:
The stone Carriage House was completely renovated in
the summer of 2004. We are certain you will sense the comfort and history
as soon as you enter. It is peacefully nestled in the Chateau grounds.
The original stone floor, now replaced by washed hardwood floors, dated
back to the 11th century. The ground floor has a salon with an armoire
TV area, dining room, French day bed (which could sleep a fifth person),
a fully equipped kitchen and powder room. Upstairs are two bedrooms,
one queen and one with twin beds, each with a tiled modern bathroom.
Carriage House can be rented by the week or longer. Since Carriage House
has its own kitchen, breakfast is not included in the price. Towels,
sheets are provided and are changed weekly.
Ample private parking is available in the walled
grounds.
